Akram Afif, the first non-Arabic-speaking pilot to pass through the gates of the Qatar Airways Airport, has successfully flown his first solo flight from the United Arab Emirates to Saudi Arabia.

The flight was part of the Qatar Airways International Flight Academy's inaugural training program and took place at Al Duhail airport in Qatar.

Afif, who is from Pakistan, had been studying aviation at the University of Manchester in England before he decided to pursue a career in the airline industry.

He started his studies with Manchester Business School in 2016 and graduated in 2018 with a degree in business administration.

After graduating, Afif moved to the United Arab Emirates and spent several years working as a pilot for private companies before deciding to take on a full-time role at Qatar Airways.
